York Bus Forum News

The Voice of York’s Bus Users

We are now an established, recognised pressure group that is widely listened to and has regular contact with the Executive Member for Transport and the Council’s Sustainable Transport Team as well as the major bus operators. We have raised issues relating to temporary bus stops, bus stop infrastructure, potential re-routeing of services, cuts in evening services, withdrawal of of Sunday services and faulty display screens. We have also sought information on the bus operators’ plans for introducing audible and visible announcements.

We have been helped by a grant from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to establish a sound organisational structure with membership (and hence funding) now building. We have affiliated memberships from York Older Persons Assembly and five parish/town councils.

Cross-party involvement – we have active members from the Labour, LiberalDemocrat and Green Parties. We also have good links with Andy D’Agorne (Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Transport).

We have set up bus station and strategy working groups and are currently working with the York Civic Trust and York Environment Forum on a public engagement strategy to form an input to York’s next Local Transport Plan.
